    MIT math breakthrough could lead to all sorts of amazing technological breakthroughs
    MIT researchers have made a breakthrough in finding a new way of calculating Fast Fourier Transforms. The new calculation may be ten times faster than the current way.     Ultrabooks Growth To Outpace Tablets
    Ultrabooks are expected to grow at a rate three times that of tablets over the next five years. 253 million tablets are expected to be shipped in 2016 which is more than the projected 178 million ultrabooks.     CES 2012: The End of an Era
    CES has both positive and negative feelings by many.     Earnings reports- Netflix, AT&T, Nokia, Apple, Verizon
    Netflix
    Although Netflix profits are down and the company has fewer DVD subscribers than it did a year ago, the company is in better shape than most predicted. Streaming subscribers have increased, and profit margins on that side of the Netflix business could become as much as 11 percent. Those additional 310,000 streaming customers are helping Netflix make up for the 3 million DVD subscribers lost over the last year. More at eCommerceTimes.com, 1/26/12:

    AT&T
    In the battle between AT&T and Verizon, AT&T has posted a victory when it comes to losses. AT&T lost over $6 billion in in the fourth quarter of 2011, while Verizon lost $2 billion over the same time period. AT&T did report some gains – specifically in the number of phones activated on their network. AT&T activated more than 7 million iPhones in the fourth quarter alone. More at NewsFactor.com, 1/26/12:

    Nokia
    Nokia is continuing to lose its foothold in the mobile market. The company reported that it activated only 1 million Windows smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2011. This represents a 23 percent decline for Nokia year-over-year. The company lost more than $1 billion in the fourth quarter. More at NewsFactor.com, 1/26/12:

    Apple
    The loss of leader Steve Jobs has not slowed down behemoth Apple. The company brought in over $46 billion in revenue over the last quarter. With a net profit of over $13 billion, the company has seen its stock soar. Most of the revenue and growth is attributable to the iPhone. More at eCommerceTimes.com, 1/25/12:

    Verizon
    Verizon grew revenue 13 percent year-over-year in the fourth quarter of 2011. With $18 billion in revenue for the quarter, the company was in a positive mindset going into 2012.Verizon was also able to claim $15 billion in service revenue, up 6.4 percent year-over-year.
